Cairns has always been home to me and I love the place.

My early years were spent on the family cane farm at Caravonica then the family moved to Dalrymple Street, Edge Hill where we lived until I completed high school at St Augustine's College.

All my working life has been spent in small businesses: Cairns Travel Agency from 1962 to 1983 then the Pancake House from 1984 to 1994 and now True Value Hardware at Edmonton.

Having lived all my life in Cairns I have seen many changes and understand good and bad development, where we went right and wrong, what we need to do to maintain a vibrant economy, a caring creative community and keep our great lifestyle.

As an employer in small business I understand the needs of staff and business. My involvement with many small business associations has given me a sound idea of what is required to operate in community development.

My wife Sharon and I own our home in Edmonton and we have four adult sons. Our sons all attended Primary and Secondary School in Cairns and I was involved in many school activities: chaired P & C associations, Cubs and Scouts, Sporting and Theatrical.

As a family man I understand the needs and wants of families in the community.

Sport and outdoor activities are important to me and I have participated in many: hockey, soccer, cricket, squash, swimming, fishing and golf, and have been involved with the sports clubs. We use and enjoy our local bicycle and walking tracks and look forward to helping develop more tracks.

Local charities, schools, sporting clubs and businesses are a vital part of our local community and we support many.

I have been a Justice of the Peace for 30 years having been appointed in 1978.

I believe the new council needs caring representation from each division working for a common cause.

Edmonton is recognised as a major growth area of Cairns and clever planning will be required to maintain the quality of life we desire without major rate increases.

The needs of our youth, sporting clubs, service clubs and senior citizens will be my concern as will the protection of our hill slopes flora, fauna and waterways.

Division 2 has been well represented by Fran Lindsay. I believe with my work experiences and understanding and love for Cairns and its citizens I can maintain that effective local representation so we can enjoy our quality of lifestyle.
